The National Weather Service (NWS) said in a posting on Facebook about the time the storms hit that there was no indication of "rotation" or a tornado in any of the storms in North Georgia but "very strong, damaging" winds.
At least two trees were toppled and were blocking both lanes of Montgomery Drive just west of Gainesville. Other debris - small limbs, leaves and pine needles - also litter the roads and yards in the area. There were other reports of downed trees coming in from other parts of the county.
"Seems to be very minor right now - just a few reports of trees and power lines down," Hall County Fire and Emergency Management Agency spokesman Scott Cagle said.
The top wind gust at Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport in Gainesville at the time of the storm was 55 miles-an-hour.
In Forsyth County, there were reports of power outages and trees and powerlines across Tribble Gap Road.
A flash flood warning was also issued for DeKalb County, where forecasters warned that heavy rains would cause flooding of small creeks and streams, as well as streets and underpasses.
Meanwhile, ire crews freed a 14-year-old child from a mobile home in Cherokee County after a tree crashed into a back bedroom of the residence. A 2-year-old child in the same mobile home was taken to a hospital.
The conditions of the teen and the younger child were not immediately known. The rescue operation took place in the Poplar Valley Mobile Home Park in southern Cherokee County.
In metro Atlanta, a flash flood warning was issued for DeKalb County, where forecasters warned that heavy rains would cause flooding of small creeks and streams, as well as streets and underpasses.
