Girls basketball: Flowery Branch upset bid falls just short

FLOWERY BRANCH -- The Flowery Branch girls basketball team came within a quarter of handing Salem its first loss of the Region 8-AAAAA season on Friday before falling 45-41 in Flowery Branch.

The Lady Falcons (5-8, 4-4 Region 8-AAAAA) led 24-17 at the half and 33-29 after three quarters but couldn't hold off the Lady Seminoles over the final eight minutes.

Breanna Locke scored 14 points to pace Flowery Branch, while Julianne Sutton added nine points.

The Lady Falcons will play at Loganville on Tuesday.
