WALLKILL, N.Y. (AP) -- Authorities say a man wanted in Barrow County is in a New York jail after he damaged two state police cars while fleeing from troopers in an upstate town.

Troopers say 30-year-old Raymond Smith of Monroe, Ga., was a passenger in a car that was pulled over for speeding late Wednesday night in the Orange County town of Blooming Grove, 55 miles northwest of New York City.

While troopers were questioning the driver outside the vehicle, Smith got behind the wheel and drove off. Troopers started a pursuit on Route 17 that ended 10 miles away in the town of Wallkill when Smith drove into two trooper cars.

He's being held in the county jail without bail. It couldn't be determined if he has a lawyer.

Police say Smith is wanted in Winder, Ga., for armed robbery.
