Demorest water customers asked to conserve

Posted 7:26PM on Wednesday 8th January 2014 ( 10 years ago )
DEMOREST - Customers of the Demorest Water System are being asked to conserve water through midnight Wednesday.

"The frigid temperatures that we have experienced for the past 48 hours has caused all five of the City of Demorest's water towers to freeze at some point in time," said Mayor Rick Austin in a statement. "Three of the towers are now operational, but work remains on two more."

Wednesday-night water conservation by customers should allow the system to recover.

"Doing so will help us restore water supplies for all of our customers and enable those with vulnerable water pipes to be able drip water through their pipes throughout the night, " Austin said. "Our water crews have worked for over 48 hours to maintain water for our customers. We'll continue to do so."
