Two Dawson County men still missing

DAWSONVILLE - Dawson County authorities continue to search for two friends who decided to go fishing early Thursday morning and have not been seen since.

Mason Cox and David Wood, both 20, decided to get an early start at the dock across the street from their home. The dock in Fredericks Cove off Georgia 400 is one of their favorite fishing spots to visit.

Dawson County Sheriff's Major Tony Wooten says according to one of their mothers, the boys left at approximately 3:30 a.m.

Wooten says his department has followed several leads received from friends and neighbors, "but at this point everything has been unsuccessful."

The Dawson County Sheriff's Office has now requested assistance from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

One of the leads Wooten said his department followed regarded a neighbor's surveillance system showing a truck driving through the boys' neighborhood about the time the twosome left for the lake.

"We did have a truck on video, early morning hours, that we initially thought might have been a part of the investigation," Wooten explained.

"But we're now almost certain that vehicle was a garbage truck that picks up locally at that time of the day."

"At this point we need positive leads," Wooten added, encouraging anyone with any information regarding the whereabouts of either Wood or Cox to contact the Dawson County Sheriff's Office at (706) 344-3535.
