LAWRENCVILLE - Gwinnett County Police Monday afternoon identified the stabbing suspect shot and killed by officers Saturday as a Flowery Branch man.

Police Corporal Jake Smith said the stabbing happened at a party at 3668 Willow Wood Way in Lawrenceville. The suspect, Robert Coleman, 30, allegedly ran three blocks down the street and forced his way into a house on Smokemist Trace after the stabbing.

Officers confronted him there after getting a burglary in progress call.

"Both officers fired shots. The suspect was struck and killed. One of the officers received a non life-threatening wound to his leg," Smith said.

The injured officer and stabbing victim were both treated at area hospitals.

"The officer who was injured has been released from the hospital. His injury is non life-threatening, but he's going to require further treatment before he can come back to work medically," Smith said.

The original stabbing victim has since been released from the hospital, but the name has not been released, according to Smith.

Both officers are on administrative leave while the investigation continues.
