ATHENS -- Longtime Georgia swimming coach Jack Bauerle will not be with the team for its meet against North Carolina State while the school conducts an academic review of sophomore Chase Kalisz.

Georgia athletic director Greg McGarity made the announcement just hours before Saturday's meet, saying both Bauerle and Kalisz will be withheld from competition until the review is completed. The school did not reveal details of the case or how long it might take to resolve.

Bauerle is one of the nation's most prominent swimming coaches, leading the Georgia women since 1979 and the men's program since 1983 with 499 career victories. He guided the Lady Bulldogs to their fifth national title last year and was head coach of the U.S. women's team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
