DAHLONEGA - The provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at the University of North Georgia (UNG) has been named to the board of trustees for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) Commission on Colleges.

Dr. Patricia L. Donat's nomination was approved at the board annual meeting last month in Atlanta. 77 members make up the board which establishes policy and reviews and takes action related to accreditation of institutions.

"I am honored to serve as a member of the Board. I believe that the peer review process is essential to maintaining academic quality and integrity in higher education," Donat said.

Donat was named UNG provost last year after serving in several roles at what was then North Georgia College and State University. She held administrative positions at Mississippi University for Women from 1998 to 2008.

From our area, Brenau University President Edward Schrader is also a member of the SACS Commission on Colleges board.
