PEACHTREE CITY - Record or near-record lows - along with some snow - are expected in parts of Georgia early next week as an Arctic blast of cold air pushes into the state, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

What North Georgia experienced Friday morning and can expect again Saturday morning is just a taste of things to come.

The NWS says low temperatures as far south as Macon Monday night could set records for the date. In addition, there is a 70 percent chance of rain and snow in parts of North Georgia, including Gainesville, with the snow expected to begin falling after midnight with lows around 20. It will also be windy. There is no mention at this point of any accumulations.

Then comes the brutal cold with temperatures dipping into the single-digits in most of North Georgia Monday night, including Gainesville, where the forecast low is 7.

That will be followed by a gradual warm-up through the rest of the week with the possibility that near-normal temperatures could return by next weekend but not before a burst of snow showers Wednesday night.
