"We widened SR 20 to create an additional 600 feet of center turning lane. This new area will improve the overall operation of SR 20 by allowing left turners to get out of the traffic flow eliminating back-ups in the immediate area. I believe it will make a big difference to the people who use the roadway daily," explained Georgia DOT Board Member, Rudy Bowen.
Bowen represents the 7th Congressional District, including southern Forsyth County, on the state Transportation Board.
GDOT says the Quick Response program allows "low cost, operational improvements" to be made to the state highway system. Projects are identified by Georgia DOT Engineers or City/County Staff then managed through the Office of Local Grants. The Georgia 20 work cost $59,510.
