GAINESVILLE - The case against a man shot by Hall County sheriff's deputies last month has been bound over to Hall County Superior Court.

Lee Parks, a Gainesville attorney who was appointed to represent Justin Bennett, says a preliminary hearing that was scheduled today was waived earlier this week. The matter is now expected to be considered by a grand jury for possible indictment.

Bennett, 27, was shot by sheriff's deputies Dec. 8 after he allegedly threatened them with a machete. After Bennett was treated for a wound to his hand at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, he was turned over to authorities, who booked him into the Hall County Jail. As of 7:00 Thursday, jail records indicated that Bennett was still behind bars.

The incident happened outside a house on Grant Street. (See earlier stories. Links below.)
