Two people struck by car, driver arrested

ELBERTON - An Elberton woman was arrested after allegedly striking two people with a vehicle Friday night.

According to an Elbert County Sheriff's Office incident report, deputies responded to Willie Black Road regarding a disturbance, where they learned that 43-year-old Darlene Redding of Bowman and 17-year-old Dantravon Durnell Smith of Elberton had been struck by a black 2001 Nissan Maxima.

Jerita Porter, 36, of Elberton was arrested later and is charged with two counts of aggravated assault, reckless driving, and hit and run/leaving the scene of an accident with injuries.

The incident, which the report states was not a stranger-to-stranger crime, was witnessed by at least five people.

The report lists the incident time between 6 p.m. Friday and 3:30 a.m. Saturday.
