WINDER - A tragic early morning-fire in the predawn hours of September 18th forever changed the lives of Russ and Angela Sauls' family.

Foremost, they lost their 18-month-old granddaughter, Kharma, in the blaze. Their Rockwell Church Road home was destroyed. All of their possessions are gone.

At last report, Russ remains hospitalized with burns and other injuries .

Angela and daughter Wynn were injured in the blaze and hospitalized before being released this week, but they have nothing to return home to.

But efforts are now underway to help the Sauls family start over.

Trish Archer's sons are very close friends with Wynn, a junior at Winder-Barrow High School. "She's very popular at the school. They (her sons) just think she hung the moon."

Archer is helping organize the recovery efforts.

A bank account has been set up at Verity Bank in Winder as a collection point for monies to be used to help the Sauls. Verity Bank also has a branch in Cornelia.

"Also the Winder Wesleyan Church has set up a site called 'The Sauls Family Needs and Prayers'. It's got everybody's sizes listed for clothes," Archer said.

"And it's listing all the personal hygiene items...they use. And the furniture stuff they need."

Weekend fund raisers are planned at the Winder Walmart and a collection jar has been placed at the nearby Dollar General Store.

"They're having to start all over, from ground-zero," Archer said and asked that those who want to offer assitance contact Verity Bank for information on how to help the Sauls start anew.
