CORNELIA - The death of an Alto woman in a wreck near Cornelia Saturday afternoon, Sept. 21, has been ruled as wreck-related.

Habersham County Coroner Kasey McEntire said Thursday an autopsy ruled that 78-year-old Eunice Ferguson died of injuries from the wreck involving her 1992 Buick Park Avenue.

Ferguson's car traveled from the right southbound lane of Georgia Highway 365 into the median, striking the guardrail and coming to rest on top of it, said Trooper 1st Class Casey Coffee of Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa. Ferguson died at the scene.

"Due to the impact of the injuries, we weren't able to tell if it was a medical issue," McEntire said.

Ferguson's passenger, 66-year-old Opal Shook of Alto, was injured and was taken by ambulance to Habersham Medical Center.

The wreck happened about one-half mile north of the left exit to U.S. Highway 441 South.
