ATLANTA - For the second time in four days, the Georgia Association of Latino Elected Officials (GALEO) is coming to Hall County to talk about and encourage voter registration.

GALEO is one of several organizations that will be sponsoring voter registration drives in several locations, including the University of North Georgia's Gainesville campus. That's where the association's executive director, Jerry Gonzelez, will be speaking to and registering students. A canvass of Gainesville neighborhoods, aimed at registering Latino voters, is also planned. (A similar outreach occurred Saturday in Gainesville. See earlier story. Link below.)

Seven other voter registration events are scheduled Tuesday in north Georgia:

Gwinnett Public Library-Norcross Branch, 6025 Buford Highway, Norcross: 5:00-8:00

Five Points MARTA station, Atlanta: 9:00-12:00 and 3:00-7:00

Kroger, Georgia Highway 85, Riverdale: 11:30- 2:00

Grady Memorial Hospital, Atlanta: 12PM - 2:30PM by Georgia WAND

Westend MARTA Station, Atlanta: 1:00-3:00

College Park MARTA Station, College Park: 3:00-7:00

University of West Georgia, Carrollton

"The right to vote is sacred and should be protected," Gonzalez said Monday. " It should also be exercised. GALEO works hard to ensure that the Latino electorate is coveted and respected. The recent growth indicates it can and will be making a difference in elections this year and years to come."

Gonzalez says there are now 183,966 Latinos registered to vote in Georgia.
