Softball: Puckett's three homers power Lady Wolves past Jefferson

BUFORD -- Buford scored 17 runs in the final two innings to erase an early deficit to beat Jefferson 17-4 Saturday in a matchup of two of the area's top teams.

The Lady Dragons (19-6) led 4-0 early after scoring two runs each in the first and third innings off Buford starter Tessa Daniels. It would stay that way until the bottom of the third.

The Lady Wolves exploded for eight runs in the third.Daniels would belt a run-scoring triple and the Drew Puckett would add a two-run home run. Remy Hasty capped the big inning with a grand slam for an 8-4 lead.

Buford would nine more in the fourth. Puckett would lead off the inning with her second home run of the game. Hasty and Morgan Walters would add RBI singles and then Puckett belted her third home run of the game, a grand slam to invoke the mercy rule.

Junior Emily Crocker would get the win for Buford (19-1) pitching the final two innings. Crocker did not allow a hit or a walk.
