HOSCHTON - State authorities believe a fire that killed an autistic man in Hoschton Wednesday night was accidental.

According to Fox 5 News, a Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner's Office official said the Jackson Meadow Drive fire started in the kitchen.

Investigators said several items on a stove caught fire, and the blaze spread.

20-year-old Tanner Wassler died in the blaze, according to Fox 5. His mother, 41-year-old Lori Lynn Wassler, suffered injuries and was taken to Athens Regional Medical Center. A third person in the home escaped injury.

Firefighters tried to rescue Tanner Wassler but had to get out of the home when the roof started falling in.
