DEMOREST - The SuperNova Concert Series at Piedmont College will present Indiana organist John Stender in a recital of classic German organ music at 4 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 22, in the College Chapel in Demorest.

The SuperNova series showcases talented musicians who are at the beginning stages of a professional concert career. Stender is a second year graduate student at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music pursuing a master of music degree in organ and sacred music. He currently serves as Minister of Music at Servants of Christ Lutheran Church (ELCA) in Indianapolis.

For the Piedmont concert, Stender will perform works by Georg Böhm, Johann Sebastian Bach, Hugo Distler, and Jean-Jacques Grünenwald. "John's Midwestern Lutheran background is reflected in the inclusion of numerous works from that tradition-a tradition that has been less well-represented on our concert series," said Piedmont President Dr. James Mellichamp. "It will be exciting to hear these wonderful pieces by German Lutheran composers."

Stender will perform on Piedmont's Sewell Organ, which was built in 2002 by Casavant Freres of Ste. Hyacinthe, Quebec, Canada-one of the world's premier builders of pipe organs. It is named in honor of Piedmont alumnus and former trustee Charles K. Sewell of the Class of 1954.
