Exam ordered for man accused in GA police shooting

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) A judge has ordered a man accused of fatally shooting a police officer to undergo another psychological exam to determine whether he's fit to stand trial.

Western Judicial Circuit Superior Court Judge H. Patrick Haggard told the court this week that his decision to order another evaluation for Jamie Hood is based on Hood's behavior at a recent pretrial hearing.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports Hood was forcibly removed from the courtroom and the judge has talked with Hood's attorneys about his request to represent himself.

Haggard has ordered the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Disabilities to evaluate Hood, provide treatment if necessary and provide the court with information on a diagnosis if one is made.

Hood is accused of shooting Athens-Clarke senior office Elmer Christian in March 2011.
