Softball: Jefferson sweeps past Washington-Wilkes

WASHINGTON -- The Jefferson softball team swept past Washington-Wilkes in a Region 8-AA doubleheader on Tuesday in Washington.

The Lady Dragons (11-4, 7-1 Region 8-AA) took Game 1 9-4 and completed the sweep with a 13-5 victory in Game 2.

Olivia Husted earned the win in Game 1, while Ashley Boyd helped lead Jefferson at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI. Erin Jackson and Jordan Phillips also had two hits and two RBI apiece.

Meanwhile, Caitlin Cantrell took the victory in the pitching circle in Game 2. Arynn Baker torched Washington at the plate, with two doubles, three RBI and a run scored. Husted, Meagan Faulkner and Jordan Phillips each had two RBI apiece in the win.

Jefferson will host Union County at 6:45 p.m. Thursday.
