GAINESVILLE - Cadet Sergeant (C/SGT) James A. Graham II, a junior at Riverside Military Academy (rma), has won a national art award from the American Society of Marine Artists (ASMA).

C/SGT Graham received the Honorable Mention award in the Young Marine Artist Search national competition for his acrylic painting titled "Destroyer." His painting was one of only four pieces chosen to receive a national award. Other art entries included bronze sculptures, watercolor paintings, and mixed media.

A photo of C/SGT Graham's painting will be featured in the fall issue of the ASMA News and Journal, and his artwork will also be recognized at the Annual Meeting of the ASMA in San Diego, California on October 5. He will receive an award ribbon, certificate and a check in October.

The ASMA is a non-profit society whose purpose is to recognize and promote marine art and maritime history and to encourage cooperation among artists, historians, academics, and others engaged in activities relating to marine art and maritime history.
