Cross country: Chestatee sweeps in Union County

BLAIRSVILLE -- The Chestatee cross country teams came away with impressive wins Thursday at the Union County Meet held at Meeks Park in Blairsville.

Chestatee had four of the top six finishers, with Jason Dang winning the individual race with a time of 18:36. Jack Carnes was third, Ivan Martin was fourth, and Logan Brock took sixth for the War Eagles.

Union County's Emma Garrison, the 2012 Class AA state champion, was the individual winner in the girls race a time of 20:46.

Sarah Beth English (22:47) and Maggie Wilson (23:04) of Chestatee finished second and third. Shelby Bennett, Merrie Barnett, and Abbie Cliché placed fifth, sixth, and seventh to clinch the win for the girls.

Chestatee won the boys race with 26 points. Hayesville, (N.C.) was second with 69 points, Lumpkin Count was third with 74, and host Union County took fourth with 81 points. Towns County (159) and Murphy, (N.C.) (178) finished fifth and sixth.

In the girls race, Chestatee finished with a total of 23 points. Union County was second with 71 points, Murphy, (N.C.) was third with 79, and Lumpkin County was fourth with 104 points. Hayesville (N.C.) was fifth at 122, and Towns County was sixth at 130.
