The woman, identified by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation as Tracey Marie Dean, 42, of Oakwood, was shot by officers after she allegedly hit them with her vehicle. She allegedly drove off after the incident around 4:30 a.m.
Dean faced a list of charges Friday, according to Gainesville Police Corporal Kevin Holbrook.
"Some of those main ones being fleeing and attempting to elude, aggravated assault on a police officer as well as felony obstruction of a police officer. She was in possession of cocaine as well as DUI."
GBI spokeswoman Sherry Lang said Dean apparently did not have her headlights on, prompting the traffic stop. Dean failed to yield after officers activated their emergency equipment, according to a police department incident report.
After driving off, the suspect was found a short distance away in her vehicle, Holbrook said earlier this week.
"I want to thank the citizen who located the suspect on the morning of the incident for calling 911. His prompt call allowed emergency units to respond and take Ms. Dean into custody without further incident and to treat her injuries." police chief Brian Kelly said in a statement Friday.
While the GBI and police have not confirmed Dean's condition with accessnorthga.com, CBS Atlanta reported on Tuesday that she was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
While the GBI has listed her name as Tracey Marie Dean, the police incident report lists her name as Tracy Dean-Seidel. Both Northeast Georgia Medical Center and the Hall County Jail had no listings under either name Friday afternoon.
Kelly confirmed Friday in his statement that the two officers involved were not seriously injured, but specifics on the extent of their injuries have not been released.
As is standard in police involved shootings in Georgia, the GBI has been called in to look into the incident. Gainesville Police is also conducting its own investigation to determine the exact actions taken by all parties in the incident, according to Kelly.
"Once the GBI's investigation is completed it will be forwarded to our District Attorney for review which is standard procedure in these types of incidents," Kelly said.
As the department moves forward, Holbrook said officer involved shootings are always difficult.
"The fact that our officers were put in that situation and that they had to protect themselves, it does take a toll on the whole police department, however it is something that we train for and it is a situation that unfortunately we do have to do," Holbrook said.
"The Gainesville Police Department places human life as its highest value. It is extremely unfortunate that the Ms. Dean took the actions she did placing our officers in harm's way and in a situation where they had no other option but to respond with force," Kelly said.
Reached by e-mail Friday afternoon, Lang said the GBI had no new information in its investigation.
