HOMER - Three people were charged in Banks County Friday in connection with a vehicle stolen in North Carolina, but not before a search involving numerous officers and a Georgia State Patrol helicopter.

Banks County Chief Deputy Shawn Wilson said deputies received a call from the Banks County E-9-1-1 Center alerting them to a possible stolen Chevrolet Sonic in the area of Banks Crossing.

Sgt. Perry Shirley located the car behind Quality Inn, Wilson said. Two of the four occupants fled the area on foot, but were apprehended within a few hours.

The suspects have been identified as Jessica Nichole Shields, 19, of Pensacola, Fla., charged with theft by receiving property stolen in another state; Tracy Wayne Dearmon, 20, of Greensboro, N.C., charged with theft by receiving property stolen in another state and obstruction or hindering law enforcement officers; and Keara O. Montgomery, 25, of Pensacola, Fla., charged with theft by receiving property stolen in another state.

The three remained at the Banks County Law Enforcement Center Friday night, awaiting first appearance hearings. The fourth suspect was a juvenile, who was turned over to his guardians.

Wilson said the car was stolen in North Carolina, and that authorities there were notified.

The Georgia State Patrol and its aviation unit assisted in the search, as well as numerous Banks County sheriff's officers and a K-9 unit.
