Schrages to receive NGCF 'Philanthropist of the Year' award

GAINESVILLE - Lorry and Sherrie Schrage will be honored with the North Georgia Community Foundation's (NGCF's) 2013 Philanthropist of the Year award at the Foundation's annual luncheon scheduled for noon on Nov. 7 at the First Baptist Church of Gainesville Banquet Hall.

In making the announcement, Foundation officials said Friday the Schrages have dedicated themselves separately and collectively to the community by offering their time, leadership and financial support for many organizations.

Throughout the years, they have supported the Northeast Georgia Health System, the Medical Center Foundation, Brenau University, Gainesville State College, Boy Scouts, Northeast Georgia History Center, Quinlan Visual Arts Center, United Way of Hall County, North Georgia Community Foundation, Challenged Child and Friends, Gainesville-Hall Junior League, Medical Center Auxiliary, Kiwanis and Good News Clinic.

"Lorry and Sherrie have given generously of their time and money to organizations in the North Georgia community," North Georgia Community Foundation President Jim Mathis said. "Over the last several decades, they have taken active roles in many philanthropic efforts."

The Philanthropist of the Year honor is given annually to individuals known for their humanitarianism and good will. A committee of former recipients selects the finalist each year from nominations submitted from a 15-county region in northeast Georgia.

Previous winners include: Dr. Richard and Phyllis Leet, Walter and Winkie Boomershine, Martha and John Jacobs, Anne and George Thomas, Mike and Lynn Cottrell, Lessie Smithgall, Philip and Mary Hart Wilheit, and Jim Walters.
