GAINESVILLE - The woman involved in an officer-involved shooting early Tuesday morning in the city of Gainesville has been identified as 42-year-old Tracie Marie Dean of Oakwood.

Two officers were injured and a female suspect was shot following an early morning traffic stop on Skelton Road. GBI spokeswoman Sherry Lang said the suspect apparently did not have her headlights on, prompting the stop.

Gainesville Police Cpl. Kevin Holbrook said the incident started around 4:30 a.m.

"During that traffic stop, the individual attempted to elude officers," said Holbrook. "The individual did strike the officers involved, causing injuries to those officers."

Holbrook said that Dean was shot after she hit the officers with her vehicle and drove away.

Dean was found a short distance away in her vehicle, according to Holbrook.

Lang said she would not comment on the condition of the suspect.

The two officers apparently received minor injuries, although specific information about their injuries also was not released.

Lang said the investigation is ongoing.
