The Weeks of Welcome special events have been planned not only for students, but with faculty and staff in mind, as well, according to school officials.
Here is a sampling of what is planned for each campus:
Dahlonega Campus
· Faculty and staff welcome students to campus and will assist with providing directions and answering questions. Tents will be set up Aug. 19 through Aug. 20 at various locations on campus.
· Nighthawks on the Square: Downtown Dahlonega invites the university downtown for free music, food, and other activities. The event is scheduled for the evening of Aug. 22.
· First Saturday of Service: UNG students will work on community service projects throughout Dahlonega and Lumpkin County the morning of Aug. 24.
Gainesville Campus
· Faculty and staff welcome students to campus and will assist with parking passes, distributing student handbooks, and answering questions. Tents will be set up Aug. 19 through Aug. 21 on the Student Center patio and the Martha T. Nesbitt Academic Building.
· Weeks of Welcome Picnic, Club and Vendor Fair: On Aug. 28, students can enjoy a picnic and find out about student organizations at the Student Center quad. T-shirts will be handed out at this event.
Oconee Campus
· Weeks of Welcome Cookout: The Office of Student Involvement invites students for free food, fun, free stuff, and music by the a cappella group Ball in the House the afternoon of Aug. 21 at the quad.
· Pizza with the President: Join UNG President Dr. Bonita Jacobs for pizza on the quad as she welcomes students for the fall semester. The event will be held during lunchtime Aug. 29.
Cumming Campus
· The Cumming Campus will be holding events during the Weeks of Welcome, but details had not been finalized at last check.
Last Tuesday, UNG President Bonita Jacobs, during appearances on the Dahlonega and Gainesville campuses, launched the first full academic year of the consolidated institution by thanking the university's nearly 2,000 faculty and staff for their hard work on consolidation and announcing new initiatives to support innovation, scholarship and service.
UNG was created in January through the consolidation of Gainesville State College and North Georgia College & State University.
