David Alan Wolf of Rock Hill, SC, was arrested in August 2012 on charges of enticing a minor to engage in sexual activity after he communicated on the internet with a person he believed to be a woman with an 8-year-old daughter. The woman turned out to be an undercover investigator and the child was fictitious.
"Thankfully, there was no eight-year-old, and law enforcement arrested him. Sexual predators have no place in our community and we will see to it that they are caught, prosecuted and punished," said United States Attorney Sally Quillian Yates in a press statement.
According to court testimony, the 63-year-old Wolf communicated for two weeks with the undercover agent, describing in detail his sexual fantasies and the sex acts he would perform on the child. On August 28, 2012, Wolf traveled from South Carolina to Barrow County, thinking he would meet the child. He was arrested by Barrow County authorities that same day.
U.S. District Judge William C. O'Kelley handed down the 14-year sentence in his Gainesville courtroom Tuesday. In addition, O'Kelley ordered Wolf to spend the remainder of his life after prison on supervised release. Wolf also must pay a $5,000 fine, and Wolf will be required to register as a sex offender when he is released from prison.
