OAKWOOD -- West Hall High School and the Spartans cross country program announced Monday that they will honor longtime volunteer and booster Steve Reed with a memorial on the team's home course.

Reed, 50, was found dead on Aug. 2 as the result of a tractor accident while he was performing volunteer maintenance at West Hall.

"Steve was a man of few words but a large heart," said Shannon Reed, Steve Reed's nephew and the Spartans' cross country coach. "He will be missed by all."

Shannon Reed said the cross country team will rename the spot where Steve fell as "The Reed Mile" at the 1-mile marker for the course.
