ATLANTA (AP) A top official for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs says three employees have been reprimanded, two more have retired and more administrative actions are pending in the wake of reports critical of patient care at the Atlanta VA Medical Center.

VA Undersecretary for Health Robert Petzel detailed the disciplinary actions at a U.S. Senate field hearing Wednesday in Atlanta. He expressed regret for the deaths of four veterans who sought treatment at the hospital and said ``aggressive action'' is being taken to correct deficiencies.

Georgia Sen. Johnny Isakson called the hearing to discuss the federal audits that detailed allegations of mismanagement and poor patient care within mental health programs at the Atlanta VA Medical Center.

A few hundred veterans and others attended the hearing held at Georgia State University.
