6,000 expected for state swim meet starting today

GAINESVILLE - Thousands of visitors are expected in Gainesville for the next three days for a state swim meet.

The Frances Meadows Aquatic and Community Center is hosting the Georgia Recreation and Park Association State Swim Meet today, tomorrow and Saturday. (See earlier story.)

A spokeswoman for the Gainesville Parks & Recreation Department said today more than 1,000 swimmers from across the state are expected to participate, with the total number of people in town for the event at around 6,000.

The Frances Meadows center will be closed to the public today, tomorrow and Saturday, reopening for public use on Sunday.
