JEFFERSON - Jackson County authorities said a 31 year old man was in stable condition Tuesday after he was stabbed in the abdomen Saturday in an apparent fight over the placement of shoes.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, both the victim and suspect lived in the same MLK Avenue residence in Jefferson.

"Jefferson Police were already there. There had been an argument that had ensued between the victim and the suspect." Jackson County Sheriff Janis Mangum said.

The victim, Brian Dudley, was taken to Athens Regional Medical Center and underwent surgery following the incident.

The suspect, 57 year old Enrique Gonzalez was arrested following the initial call and charged with aggravated assault.

"There was alcohol involved and an argument over shoes being placed on a table, at which time the suspect cut the victim. There was just a fight going on when the 911 call was made," Mangum said.

The residence belonged to Dudley's mother, according to the sheriff.
