Lutz announces run for state office

FLOWERY BRANCH - After announcing last month he will not run for re-election to the Hall County Commission, Craig Lutz Monday afternoon said he plans to continue his political career, but on the state level.

In a press statement, Lutz said he will run in the Republican primary for Post 4 of the State Public Service Commission. The position is up for a vote next year.

Lutz began his political career in 2008 as a City Council member in Flowery Branch. In 2010, Lutz was elected as a Republican to the District 4 seat on the Hall County Commission. Lutz told the Hall County Republican Party at a meeting on June 25 that he had accomplished most of what he'd planned as a commissioner and was ready to make a move for a higher office.

"When elected to the Public Service Commission, my primary principle will be placing Georgians first," said Lutz.

"District 4 deserves a commissioner that will put the family and small business first when making decisions that will impact our budgets. Engaging in conflicts between special interest versus the utilities places our families in the crossfire."

Before running for elected office, Lutz was employed for 16 years with BellSouth.

Lauren "Bubba" McDonald, Jr., of Clarkesville now holds the office Lutz will be seeking.

The Public Service Commission regulates utilities in the state.
