CLARKESVILLE - The Habersham County Board of Education has named Wes McGee as principal of Habersham Central High School, effective July 15.

McGee spent 11 years as a teacher at East Hall High School, and the past eight years as an administrator there.

"We are pleased that Mr. McGee has made the decision to join our team here in Habersham County," said Habersham County School Superintendent Matthew Cooper. "I believe Mr. McGee will be a great leader at Habersham Central."

McGee received a bachelor of science degree in secondary education and a master of education administration and policy from the University of Georgia, and an education specialist degree in educational leadership from Lincoln Memorial University.

He has experience as a department chair, a coach, a testing coordinator, a crisis plan director, a ninth grade academy director, a former sponsor of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and as a career, technical, and agricultural education (CTAE) director.

"I feel very blessed and fortunate to be joining the Raider Nation," McGee said following his selection Thursday night. "I'm extremely excited. Everything I've heard has been positive. The board, I feel, is a fantastic board. I feel like there's going to be a lot of support, and their heart is definitely for the students of Habersham County."

McGee was joined at Thursday evening's called meeting by his wife Jennifer. The couple has five children.

"Our teachers, parents, and community will quickly recognize that Mr. McGee is a man of character who has his heart in the right place," Cooper said. "Mr. McGee will work as a team with our administration, teachers, and staff to ensure that Habersham Central continues to operate as an exceptional place for our high school students to learn and succeed," Cooper said.

"We're excited to have him as an addition to our team, and we know that Habersham County will come in and rally around him," said BOE Chairman Gilbert Barrett.

Also during Thursday's called meeting, the board named Habersham County native Patrick Franklin as assistant principal of North Habersham Middle School, effective July 15.

"Patrick Franklin will be a great addition to a great team at North Habersham Middle," Cooper said. "Mr. Franklin has been a teacher leader in our school system for the last nine years, and he is certainly ready and prepared to become an assistant principal," Cooper said.

Franklin thanked the board for giving him the opportunity. Franklin, whose teaching career has been at South Habersham Middle School, was one of 65 applicants for the position.

"We're really excited to have him on board," said NHMS Principal Brent Tuck.

Additionally, the board approved the transfer of Fairview Elementary School Counselor Holly McShane to school counselor at the Habersham Ninth Grade Academy; and of Nicole Trunk, school nutrition manager at Hilliard A. Wilbanks Middle School to school nutrition floating manager at Hilliard A. Wilbanks Middle School/district-wide; and the hiring of Ashley Dockery as speech language pathologist.
