Lawyer says Alzheimer's center owner is innocent; workers posting bond

COMMERCE - An attorney for the owner of an assisted living facility for Alzheimer's patients that was recently raided says his client is innocent of any intentional wrongdoing.

Mo Wiltshire, an attorney for owner of Alzheimer's Care of Commerce, Donna Wright, told WGCL-TV Wednesday that allegations against Wright are unfounded and Tuesday's raid was the first time in the facility's 18-year history that it had been suspended or shut down.

State and local law enforcement officials raided the facility after receiving multiple complaints from relatives of residents and employees about alleged abuse and substandard conditions.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said workers have been accused of restraining patients by tieing them down with bedsheets, striking patients and throwing water on patients, as well as financial intimidation of patients.

Twenty-one workers were charged and many had been released Wednesday night on bonds ranging from $45,000 to $60,000.
