Piedmont College head volleyball coach Sid Feldman released the 2013 schedule for his Lady Lions, who face a tough slate of regional competition, along with challenges against both NAIA and NCAA Division II member institutions.

The Lady Lions are looking to stretch their streak of collecting at least 20 wins in a season to nine consecutive years with another such performance in 2013.

PC opens up the season on the road with tournament action as they travel to Tennessee for an invitational hosted by Sewanee-University of the South where the green and gold will play five games in about a 24-hour span.

After playing a pair of NAIA opponents on Friday night, the Lady Lions will face the host Tigers on Saturday morning before wrapping up the weekend with two more games later that afternoon including one against Fisk University, a former member of the Great South Athletic Conference where PC spent more than a decade competing.

Returning home from their opening weekend tourney, Piedmont will have a week off from competition before returning to the court for the first of four home tri-matches that the Lady Lions will host in Cave Arena during the 2013 season. That home opener will come on Oct. 7 when PC hosts a pair of in-state, non-conference foes including Oglethorpe University and Brewton-Parker College.

Piedmont then hits the road for their next four matches with a short journey over to Toccoa Falls College for a mid-week match up with the local rival Eagles. The Lady Lions also pay a visit to Agnes Scott College in that four-game road stint, PC's fourth opponent from Georgia in a six-game stretch.

After 11 non-conference games to start the season, Piedmont opens league play with a home tri-match hosting another Georgia opponent in LaGrange College as well as new conference member Huntingdon College who makes its USA South debut with the Sept. 21 match in the Cave.

The following weekend, Piedmont breaks from USA South play to travel for a pair of matches with ODAC members facing Guilford and Shenandoah in Greensboro, North Carolina. Those two matches are two of eight non-conference matches in the Lady Lions' final 26 contests in 2013.

Returning to USA South action, the Scots of Maryville are next on the table for Piedmont in a match-up of continual rivals in the Cave on Sept. 29. The two volleyball powers have seen their rivalry carry on to a new conference this past season after combining to win all 12 GSAC championships they were involved in prior to joining the USA South.

With the exception of a pair of non-Division III foes in North Greenville University and Matin Methodist College, PC will see nothing but conference competition in its next 11 games. A NCAA Division II member, North Greenville comes to Demorest on Oct. 9 for an anticipated mid-week evening match.

Piedmont travels to play NAIA foe Martin Methodist less than two weeks later in a battle of veteran coaches as coach Feldman leads his Lady Lions against a Red Hawk squad guided by coach Rose Magers-Powell who enters her 16th year at the Tennessee school. Prior to taking up the Matin Methodist coaching post, Magers-Powell was a member of the 1984 U.S. Olympic Volleyball team winning the silver medal, the highest finishing women's team in United States history.

Nearing the end of the season, PC takes on two Southern Athletic Association members traveling to play Berry and Millsaps before traveling out-of-state to play a USA South contest at Huntingdon on Oct. 27. The Lady Lions then hit the road once more for the second of a home-away series against Oglethorpe three days later before wrapping up the regular season with a league tri-match in Rocky Mount, N.C.

The 35 game regular season will be a building process towards the USA South Championship Tournament which begins in Martinsville, Va., Nov. 8. The Lady Lions will look to their quartet of rising seniors to improve on the team's post-season performance from one year ago when they made their exit in the quarterfinal round of last season's championships at the hands of Averett University.
