GAINESVILLE - The Georgia Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers have united efforts this weekend at Lake Lanier for "Operation Drywater".

DNR representatives plan to be at various Corp boat ramps around the 38,000-acre reservoir both Saturday and Sunday, distributing safety literature and offering State of Georgia Boating Laws & Information Sheets.

And they plan to enforce those regulations.

Sgt. Mike Burgamy, DNR's Lake Lanier Supervisor, said they plan to use an aircraft as sunset approaches to spot violators down below.

"Skiing type violations, 100-foot (buffer) violations, and then later on into the dark hours, we'll be looking to spot improper or no-lighting violations," Burgamy said.

"And we'll have a mobile Intoxilyzer at Gwinnett Co. Park," Burgamy added, to help Rangers with suspected violators of the new boating legal limits for alcohol intoxication.

"There is zero tolerance for boating-under-the-influence. We will be aggressively enforcing that."
