Charges brought in Gainesville shooting death

GAINESVILLE - A 32-year-old Gainesville man has been charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of another man on Atlanta Street Monday evening.

Gainesville Police Cpl. Kevin Holbrook said late Monday night that 32-year- old Joseph Scott Williams also faces charges of possession of a gun during the commission of a crime and possession of a gun by a convicted felon.

The victim, Adrian Thompson was shot Monday around 6 p.m. at the intersection of Atlanta Street and E.E. Butler Parkway. Thompson was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

Gainesville Police Corporal Kevin Holbrook said that upon arrival at the scene Monday afternoon, a large crowd had already gathered near the victim.

According to Corporal Joe Britte, also with the Gainesville Police Department, it was an altercation that led to the shooting.
