DANIELSVILLE - Authorities in Danielsville are planning an emergency blood drive Saturday for Officer Henry Hicks, Chief of the Danielsville Police Department.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff's Department Facebook page, Hicks, also an employee of the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, was injured in a single-vehicle traffic accident early Thursday morning.

The wreck happened on Highway 174. Hicks was in critical condition at Athens Regional Medical Center.

The blood drive is scheduled at the Danielsville Fire Department near the Madison County courthouse. It runs from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

Corporal Tracy Webb, of the Georgia State Patrol Post in Athens, worked the accident. He said it happened at 7:09 a.m., less than a mile east of Friendship Church Road on Highway 174.

According to Webb, Hicks was headed east on 174 alone in a 1989 Ford Bronco.

Webb said it appeared Hicks was negotiating a curve, and for an unknown reason, ran off the south side of the road and hit a fence. The vehicle ultimately came to rest on its top.

Webb said Hicks was conscious and alert at the time of the accident. Webb said it was his understanding that the chief's condition had worsened since the time of the accident.
