American Atheists made the announcement Friday on its website.
The move comes after an admitted atheist complained to state parks officials when he found a Bible, placed by the Gideons, in his cabin at Amicalola State Park in Dawson County. After the complaint, all Bibles were removed, but last week, Governor Nathan Deal ordered the Bibles replaced. The governor said he had consulted with the state attorney general's office and they ruled that there was no legal reason to have the Bibles removed.
At the time, the governor said any religious group was welcome to submit materials to be placed in cabins and lodges.
"We appreciate the governor's invitation to place atheist books in the cabins and look forward to providing visitors with the opportunity to learn more about atheism when they visit Georgia's beautiful state parks," said Managing Director Amanda Knief in the website statement.
Books to be donated include "Why I Am Not A Muslim," by Ibn Warraq, "Why I Am An Atheist" by Madalyn Murray O'Hair, "god is not Great," by Christopher Hitchens and "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins.
There was not indication when the books would be sent to Georgia.
