United Way increases # of agencies it supports

GAINESVILLE - United Way of Hall County is increasing the number of agencies it supports to 23 this year, covering 37 total programs in three "core" areas: education, health and income.

"Our goal is to create the best life possible for everyone in Hall County," said Jackie Wallace, President of United Way of Hall County.  "We do that by listening to our community to determine where the biggest needs are, and then recruiting the people and organizations that bring the passion, expertise and resources needed to address those issues.'

"We have taken this responsibility very seriously, and we re investing resources in programs that align with these aspirations," Wallace added.

"It will take us all  giving, advocating and volunteering  to reach our goals. It takes collaboration to find solutions to complex issues and make long-lasting changes in people's lives," Wallace said.  "The true measure of United Way will be in the ways we are impacting the community  in connecting people across the county and improving our community s education, income and health."

Wallace said United Way will invest $1.65 million in Hall County this year.

· Brenau University

· Center Point
· Challenged Child & Friends
· Children s Center for Hope and Healing
· Community Council on Aging
· Disability Resource Center
· Eagle Ranch
· Edmondson-Telford Center
· Gateway Domestic Violence Center
· Girls Scouts of Historic Georgia
· Good News Clinics
· The Guest House
· Hall County 4-H
· Rape Response
· The Salvation Army
· Summer Scholars Program
· Teen Pregnancy Prevention
· Three Dimensional Life

According to Joy Griffin, United Way's Vice President, Resource Development, new programs include:

*Project Achievement - Hall County 4-H

*Center for Counseling & Psychological Services - Brenau University

*Meals On Wheels - Community Council on Aging

*Durable Medical Equipment Loan Closet - Disability Resource Center

*Counseling for At-Risk Children - Eagle Ranch

*Forensic Interview Program - Edmondson-Telford Center

*Family Recovery Program - Three Dimensional Life
