James H. "Jim" Avery, who was a pioneer in the Forsyth County fire service and more recently served as chief and emergency management agency director in White County, died Thursday.
The observance will be held from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Ingram Funeral Home in Cumming, with the actual celebration just after 7 p.m.
Avery served as fire chief in White County when the Palm Sunday tornadoes ripped through the county, destroying homes, farms, and businesses.
Even in his death, he is continuing to help those affected by fire.
Avery's family has asked that memorial donations in his name be made to the Georgia Firefighter Burn Foundation, 2575 Chantilly Drive, Atlanta, GA 30324.
