Charges filed in fiery weekend crash

GAINESVILLE - A driver involved in a fiery wreck is facing numerous charges, ranging from driving under the influence to failure to maintain lane.

Justin Wesley Barfield, 24, of Flowery Branch allegedly drove his car off the road while attempting to pass in a no passing zone. The car struck a culvert and went airborne, striking a utility pole in the process.

The car then overturned and caught fire. Luckily, there were no other passengers.

Barfield has been charged with failure to maintain lane, passing in a no passing zone, hit and run/leaving the scene of an accident, failure to notify owner after striking a fixture, driving under the influence and reckless driving.

After the wreck, Barfield was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

The accident happened on Martin Road.
