More than 50 to become U.S. citizens in Gainesville

GAINESVILLE - Over 50 north Georgia residents are scheduled to become United States citizens Friday morning in the first naturalization ceremony in Gainesville since 2009.

People residing in 16 counties will be represented in the United States District Court ceremony, in which the new citizens will take the oath of citizenship.

Judge Carla McMillen of the Georgia Court of Appeals will be featured as a guest speaker. U.S. District Judge William C. O'Kelley will preside over the ceremony.

It takes place at 11:00 a.m. in the United States District Court at 121 Spring Street.
