Georgia GOP Chairman candidates to debate in Gainesville

GAINESVILLE - Candidates for Chairman of the Georgia Republican Party will debate Thursday, May 2, at the Gainesville Civic Center. The event begins at 6:30, and all four announced candidates have confirmed they will participate.

The Hall County Republican Party, along with the White County and Georgia Ninth District Republican parties, will host the event. Todd Rehm, Political Contributor at GAPundit.com, will moderate.

The debate is a prelude to the State GOP Convention in Athens on May 18. Delegates to the convention will elect their new chairman to replace current office holder, Sue Everhart.

Announced candidates are:

Seth Harp, 70, from Columbus, lawyer and former state senator; BJ Van Gundy, 51, from Peachtree Corners, current second vice chairman of the Georgia Republican Party and management consultant; Alex Johnson, 28, from Decatur, general counsel for the DeKalb County Republican Party; and John Padgett, 67, from Athens, current secretary of the Georgia GOP.
