White Co. volunteers dedicate Family Promise day center

CLEVELAND - It has been a long journey for Family Promise of White County as volunteers have worked to get the organization set up to reach out and help homeless children and their families. Anna and Jessie Nix have spearheaded the efforts.

Thursday the group held a Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony for a house, located south of Cleveland, that will be used as the Day Center for the group.

Jesse Nix talked about the long journey and the people who have made it with them.

"It was really amazing the outpouring we have here in White County; we found out how giving this community is."

"We'll continue to need the support as we're moving along...keep doing what we've been doing," said Nix "It's been very, very good."

The group dedicated the Day Center in memory of Reverend Ed Cundiff of Episcopal Church Of The Resurrection, since he gave endless hours to the Family Promise cause. The Day Center will be used as the Family Promise office and a place for the adult family members they are helping to use in search for a job.

Pastor Scott Kidd of the Episcopal Church talked about the service Ed Cundiff gave.

"He knew doing things like this, building up Family Promise, is a part of what makes a community stronger."

The group says it hopes to name a director for the Day Center within the next couple of weeks, and then they can begin serving the homeless in the county.
