The ownership change is expected to create 32 new jobs in the state.
Atmos is the primary natural gas supplier for people inside the Gainesville city limits.
"We've committed extensive resources to this transition over the last few months and we're looking forward to delivering high-quality customer service to all of our customers in Georgia," said Roger Garms, President of Liberty Utilities Georgia.
Customers will notice a new Liberty Utilities logo on their natural gas bills, company vehicles, employees' uniforms, office buildings and printed materials. There will also be expanded customer services offered in the coming months.
"We're looking forward to offering local customer service, additional marketing services and new options at our Gainesville and Columbus locations over the next few months," said Joel Ames, Sr., Manager/Customer Care, Liberty Utilities Georgia. "Our goal is to deliver 'best-in-class' customer service at the local level, where we can provide quality face-to-face assistance."
The final state and federal regulatory approvals needed to complete the transaction were granted last month after the sale to Liberty Utilities was originally announced in August 2012.
