ATLANTA (AP) Transportation officials say the tolls on Georgia 400 will end later this year.

The State Road and Tollway Authority plans to remove the .50-cent tolls the week before Thanksgiving, weather permitting, according to a statement released Thursday.

The number of commuters is expected to go up when it becomes free to drive on 400.

Malika Wilson of the Tollway Authority said officials anticipate an 18 percent increase in volume once the tolls are removed.

The tolls were originally set to expire in 2011, but the State Road and Tollway Authority voted to extend the fare until 2020. In 2012, Gov. Nathan Deal announced the toll booths would be removed by the end of 2013.
