DAHLONEGA - The Georgia State Patrol has released the name of the cyclist killed when she was hit by an SUV Friday afternoon in Lumpkin County.

Troopers said the crash happened around 4:20 p.m. on Highway 129 just south of DeSoto Falls.

According to authorities, 40 year old Lemrae Dana Winkler of Sautee Nacoochee was headed north in her Ford Explorer. Investigators said her vehicle crossed the roadway in a curve, went onto the west shoulder, back onto the roadway and hit a southbound cyclist.

That cyclist, 53 year old Michele Chesnut of Cumming, died in the accident.

Following the collision, troopers said Winkler's vehicle left the roadway on the east shoulder, hit an embankment and overturned.

She was taken to Chestatee Regional Hospital. Although the patrol didn't immediatly release her condition, Lumpkin County authorities Friday said she was taken for observation.

The state patrol's Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is working the follow-up investigation.

The accident closed 129 for several hours Friday.
