Blanchard is renowned in jazz circles as a remarkable trumpeter, composer, arranger and bandleader. Despite more than 29 albums, five Grammy awards, and countless Grammy nominations to his credit, jazz trumpeter Blanchard is perhaps even more widely recognized for his work as a film composer, working on "Do the Right Thing," "Mo' Better Blues," "Jungle Fever," "Malcolm X," "Clockers," "Summer of Sam," "Inside Man," and "Red Tails."
On March 25, Kim Bearden, co-founder of the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, will speak at 7 p.m. in the Hoag Student Center Auditorium on the Dahlonega campus as part of the Hoag Lecture Series. The event is free and open to the public.
Bearden speaks to thousands of educators each year and teaches workshops on creativity, brain-based research, the Multiple Intelligences, authentic assessment, technology integration, and learning styles. With an award-winning teaching career that spans more than 20 years, she has been a teacher, instructional lead teacher, curriculum director, school board member, staff development trainer and middle school principal.
On March 26, the chief operating officer of the High Museum of Art, Philip Verre, will be speaking in Dahlonega at the Library and Technology Center, David L. Potter Special Collections Room, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. to promote the "Frida & Diego: Passion, Politics, and Painting" exhibit at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta.
Verre will be offering a number of discounted tickets to those interested in going to the High to view the exhibit. His presentation is free and open to the public. "Frida & Diego" features more than 120 paintings and drawings by Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera and photos of the couple and Mexico's revolutionary culture during the 1920s and 1930s.

* The Department of Political Science and International Affairs will be hosting the 15th annual Georgia Public Administration Academic Conference on March 22 on the Dahlonega campus. The event, held each year by the Georgia chapter of the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA), features students and faculty from public administration programs across the state visiting and presenting their research. In addition to the election of ASPA chapter officers, the annual meeting also features discussions on ethics, higher education administration, emerging public policy issues, and social and economic policy.
